| The sources listed below are not affiliated with Mountain Lake, but offer scholarships or funding that may be applied to tuition, room and board, or other fees at MLBS to support students taking classes, participating in the REU program, or other station programs.
We encourage you to pursue any of these opportunities. If you plan to apply for support specifically for work at MLBS please contact the station for special instructions or information to include in your application.
- UVA offers a wide array of scholarships and Research Fellowships that may be applied to programs at MLBS. Please visit UVA's "Center for Undergraduate Excellence" for a complete list of current opportunities for UVA students.
The Garden Club of America, Scholarships and Fellowships. Several scholarships and fellowships are available. Not all are applicable to Mountain Lake programs.
Urban Forestry Gateway. Six scholarships, totaling $10,000 will be awarded to selected recipients: Two $2000 scholarships for graduate students enrolled at a Virginia College or University Two $1700 scholarships for undergraduate students at a Virginia 4- year college Two $1300 scholarships for undergraduate students enrolled at a Virginia 2-year or community college. Those eligible for the scholarship include students majoring in urban forestry or a related discipline (forestry, horticulture, environmental science, biology, landscape architecture, or geography) and have a commitment to a career in urban forestry.
Double Hoo Research Grant. To encourage collaborative interaction between the undergraduate and graduate communities at the University, the Double Hoo Research Grant will support pairs of undergraduate and graduate scholars seeking to pursue independent research projects. Proposals from ALL SCHOOLS at the University will be considered. Awards of up to $5000 will be granted to undergrad/grad pairs, to be used within two years. Successful applicants will be asked to present as part of the Research Week symposia or to publish their work in the Oculus upon completion of the project.
- Malcolm Pirnie, Inc. Scholars Program/Internship.The Program provides scholarship assistance and summer internships to students who are US Citizens or US Permanent Residents, attending any accredited HBCU or accredited majority 4-year college or university may apply in the designated majors.
